In print and on television, John Harwood has covered the presidency, Congress and national politics for more than four decades at America's leading news organizations.

He has been political editor of the Wall Street Journal, political writer for the New York Times, chief Washington correspondent for CNBC, and White House correspondent for CNN.

He studied history and economics at Duke University, and later was awarded a year-long Nieman Fellowship at Harvard. He currently writes a weekly political column, The Stakes, for the digital publication Zeteo. He also hosts the Bedeviled podcast on threats to democracy at Duke, where he serves as a distinguished fellow at the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy.
