About Us
The Estate Planning Council of Richmond, Virginia was founded in 1948 and is one of the oldest Councils in continuous operation. The original founders stated,
“The purpose of the Council shall be to promote the interests of the general public by developing among those engaged in the field of estate planning, including particularly life underwriters, trust officers, attorneys-at-law and certified public accountants, a better understanding of the services of each and through intelligent cooperation, to broaden the scope and usefulness of these several fields of endeavor.”
Since that time, membership has been expanded to include academic professionals, certified financial planners, and those representing charitable organizations and foundations. The Council’s charter provides for the proper balance of representations from each discipline involved in the estate planning process.
The Estate Planning Council of Richmond is an affiliate of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC), a national organization of professional estate planners and affiliated estate planning councils, focused on establishing and monitoring the highest professional and educational standards.
